Dirt Cupcakes

Dirt cupcakes are a delicious chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting “dirt” Oreo crumbs and wiggly gummy worms for a delicious spooky treat.

These adorable creepy cupcakes are made to look just like dirt, complete with worms! Thankfully the worms aren’t real and are completely edible.

Did any of you grow up having dirt pudding for a fun dessert? Basically it’s a delicious trifle with pudding and crushed Oreos layered on top of each other, one after the other, and all topped with gummy worms to look like a big bowl of dirt. I remember having it a few times growing up, and it was always such a fun and delicious treat!

After I made these cute creepy crawly dirt pudding cups, I just knew I had to try making some dirt cupcakes the same way! Thankfully, I was not disappointed. Basically it’s a chocolate cupcake, with chocolate frosting, all topped with Oreo crumbs and gummy worms. What’s not to love about that?

These are perfect for chocolate lovers!

This is the easiest kind of recipe. You just need chocolate cupcakes, you can either make them from scratch or simply from a box mix. I’ll be honest, I usually use a box mix, because my kids don’t care but this chocolate cupcake recipe is delicious too!

After the cupcakes are cooled, you will top them with chocolate frosting, which can again be homemade or you can use frosting from a can. I’ve got this homemade chocolate frosting recipe, that’s perfect for these cupcakes.

Then you’ll top the frosting with crushed up Oreos, for the dirt. You can crush the Oreos with a food processor or blender, or in a bag with a mallet. Top them with gummy worms and spiders for the creepy crawly bugs that are crawling out of the dirt. You can use sour gummy worms, or regular, whichever is your preference.

I’ve gotten the spider rings from Amazon, Hobby Lobby and Walmart. I’m sure other craft and grocery stores have them as well. The rings aren’t edible of course, but just rinse them off and each of the party guests (at least if they’re kids) will love having a spooky ring of their own.

These cupcakes are not only delicious, and so fun to eat, but they’re completely adorable, in a creepy crawly, buggy sort of way. They are perfect for a Halloween party, gardening party, or they’d be so fun for a kids birthday party too!

Dirt Cupcakes

Dirt cupcakes are a delicious chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting “dirt” Oreo crumbs and wiggly gummy worms for a delicious spooky treat.

Chocolate Cupcakes
Chocolate Frosting
Oreos
Gummy Worms
Spider Rings

Cook your chocolate cupcakes and allow them to cool completely.
Make your chocolate frosting and set aside.
Pulse your Oreos into a fine crumb and put them in a medium sized bowl.
Frost your cupcakes.
Dip your frosted cupcakes into the oreo crumbs to completely the cupcake with your “dirt”.
Lay your gummy worms and your spiders on top of your dirt. And serve.
